4 Reasons your recruitment website isn’t mobile friendly

The future of SEO is mobile. If your recruitment website isn’t mobile friendly by now, what have you or your web designers been doing these last few years? You see, Google doesn’t like websites that are hard to use on mobile devices. In fact, it actively punishes them.

Don’t believe me? Read about ‘mobilegeddon’, when the SEO world panicked after Google started to give ranking boosts to websites optimised for mobile devices. This meant non-mobile-friendly websites disappeared from top Google search results, losing visibility and organic traffic in the process.

But it’s not just Google that dislikes non-mobile-friendly websites. Generally speaking, visitors to your website, including potential applicants and clients, also want a good mobile experience. In 2018, website visitors (and I’m speaking for myself here, too) are especially aggrieved about slow loading times and poor design quality. Not to mention having to awkwardly zoom in using their fingers and thumbs to read the content on your landing pages and blog—you’ll know what I mean.

If you’re worried that you’re website isn’t up to scratch, here are four ways you can tell and reasons to enlist the help of an expert web design agency right away.

1. YOUR WEBSITE ISN’T MOBILE OPTIMISED

Optimise your website for mobile devices by designing a separate mobile-friendly version. This can’t be stressed enough—don’t leave mobile users having to fiddle around with their devices when they want to read your content, click buttons, or input information.

Instead, keep the following features at the forefront of your design:

Easy navigation (across all devices)
Clear and simple design
Swiping functionality
Large text and icons
Easy-to-use contact forms
To simplify, create an optimised, easy-to-use mobile website that helps generate leads, while keeping the same stylistic features across all designs so your brand remains consistent.

2. APPLICANTS CAN’T APPLY USING THEIR MOBILE DEVICE

With more web searches currently happening on mobile than on desktop devices, never underestimate the importance of ensuring your mobile website is fully functional. This means leaving no stones unturned when thinking about users’ internet browsing habits.

Put this into practice by designing your website so users can complete all their tasks from any device. Allow your visitors to click phone numbers which dial straight through to your company, to make sure they can apply for jobs when they’re looking at your website on the move.

3. YOU’VE OVERLOOKED THE SMALL DETAILS

Think about your website’s user experience and never overlook the smaller details, such as the size of the headings and copy, images, and icons. If in doubt, get somebody who hasn’t been involved in the website’s development to test it and provide constructive feedback. This way, you can make small design tweaks if they’re required.

4. SEO? YOU’VE FORGOTTEN BASIC OPTIMISATION TECHNIQUES

Don’t forget simple SEO techniques, such as relevant keywords included in body copy and headings, which will help your mobile-friendly website rank highly in Google’s search results. Furthermore, internal links help users navigate to other, relevant content. You’ll want to link phone numbers and email addresses so users can contact you with one click, whether they’re seeking further information or want to apply for vacant positions.

Failure to make life easy for users via a mobile-friendly website will result in lost clients or applicants. So what are you waiting for? Boost your digital marketing capabilities with a mobile-friendly website and capture those all-important leads before another recruitment agency does.
